Belly-Binding & Abdominal Care Sessions
Belly-binding or belly wrapping is a traditional postpartum practice found in many cultures around the world, including those who have very low rates of PPMDs and other postpartum ailments.
This practice involves a warming treatment such as a yoni steam or herbal bath and applying warm compress on the abdomen and womb area.
We then apply warming oil and firming paste to the abdomen, ethically and culturally sourced, that is infused with healing properties to stimulate the body’s natural healing process, and the organs to begin to return to their proper place.
We then use a fabric strip or pre-made bind to wrap around a postpartum person’s abdomen to help stabilize the pelvis and encourage the muscles to come together. It also helps with digestion and womb healing, including being supportive of the cesarean healing process.
This practice honors the new mother and her act of birth, and is safe for both vaginal and cesarean deliveries, but we request that you receive your doctor’s approval before our session if you give birth via cesarean.
Before the session we will take some time to connect to explain the process and how it can specifically support you postpartum. Throughout the session, we may talk a bit about how the birth unfolded and relish in your joy or begin to heal anywhere you may have experienced doubt in your power and a more difficult birth.
This is also an opportunity to share your postpartum bliss and/or any postpartum challenges you may be experiencing, and receive support from someone who understands the process that a person goes through in becoming a parent, and all the ups and downs, fears, doubts, worries, anxieties you may experience.
You will also receive a postpartum tea or tonic to support the postpartum healing process, & follow up guidance on body care.
You will also receive support and guidance on how to self-bind when we are not there, and information about other body care rituals that may support your postpartum recovery.
The session is an experience that you don’t want to miss!
